Social justice starts with us

Social injustice is a systemic issue in the Western world, and the system needs to be improved to meet the needs of its citizens, but we cannot ignore the role of the individual in social change.

Society is built on individuals; we are the foundation on which social structures and systems operate.

We can change social structures all we want, but unless there is foundational change – grassroots change by the individuals making up society – then there is little hope for lasting change.

There is a profound responsibility in being an individual in a society – we are, in part, to blame for our current social structure and we are, perhaps in greater part, responsible for the future of our society.

None of us can go back in time to alter social injustices, but each of us can influence the future of social justice.

No one is able to reverse the effects of decades of environmental degradation, but we are all responsible for the future of our planet.

We are all of us responsible, but, greater than that, we are all empowered; the world can’t change without us.

In my next post I will further explore the responsibility we all have as individuals towards the good of humanity.
